Topic:
Consultation workshop - Launceston adult mental health centre
Date and time:
Various opportunities to have your say from Monday 17 May 2021 to Wednesday 19 May 2021
Audience:
Greater Launceston area - residents and service providers

The Australian Government is funding a trial of eight adult mental health centres across Australia, with one to be established in each state and territory.

Launceston has been chosen as the location for the Tasmanian centre, which will aim to:

  • improve access to mental health and related support services for Tasmanians in the local area
  • connect care
  • reduce demand on hospital emergency departments.

Siggins Miller Consultants has been engaged to conduct stakeholder consultation to inform the establishment and development of the new Launceston centre, as part of a co-design process.

You are invited to attend a consultation session to share your input about the centre’s look and feel, supporting services, and workforce requirements.

There are four sessions scheduled between 17 and 19 May (listed below), and you are welcome to register for the most convenient session.

If unable to attend you can register here and a representative from Siggins Miller will be in contact to arrange a one-on-one discussion.

More information about the Launceston adult mental health centre

  • The Launceston adult mental health centre will be a welcoming ‘no wrong door’ entry point for adults in distress or crisis who need immediate care, support or information
  • There will be no charge, and appointments won’t be needed
  • The centre will complement – rather than replace or duplicate – services already provided in the community and will connect people with other local services for ongoing care
  • Primary Health Tasmania is responsible for establishing the centre in Launceston and will undertake local consultation to help shape it to best meet local needs
  • All of the trial centres must operate within an overarching national service model that has already been finalised following national consultation.

More information about the consultation process

  • The consultation process is expected to run for two months and garner insights from people with lived experience, community members, service providers and clinicians
  • The process includes an online survey, focus groups, meetings and interviews to collect ideas and contribute to the service model for the Launceston Centre
  • These contributions will inform the development of a draft service model for the Launceston centre, which will be developed and reviewed in the second half of 2021.
