These events are being organised by the southern General Practice Liaison Officers and supported by Primary Health Tasmania.

Event 3 will focus on:

  • Tasmanian Health Service (south) Backpain Assessment Clinic (BAC) project
  • The Persistent Pain Service

Mike Munt and Hamish Newsham-West will present on Tasmanian Health Service (south) Backpain Assessment Clinic Project. They will focus on the background, structure and processes of the Backpain Assessment Clinic.

Mike has worked as a physiotherapist for 30 years in private practice and public health systems in New Zealand, Western Australia and Tasmania. For the last 10 years, he has worked at the Royal Hobart Hospital as the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Team Leader. He is currently the project manager and clinician in the BAC project.

Hamish has worked as a physiotherapist for 23 years in both private practice and public health systems in New Zealand, United Kingdom, Victoria and Tasmania. He is currently the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist (Musculoskeletal) clinician in BAC and Osteoarthritis Clinic.

Dr Hilton Francis will present on The Persistent Pain Service, which will focus on which patients to refer and which patients not to refer, along with alternative options. His presentation will have particular relevance and reference points to the Backpain Assessment Clinic presentation.
