Free interpreting service

Posted on June 9, 2023

The Free Interpreting Service aims to provide equitable access to key services for people with limited or no English language proficiency. It is delivered by the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) on behalf of the Australian Government.

Private medical practitioners (GPs, nurse practitioners and approved medical specialists) can access the Free Interpreting Service when delivering Medicare rebatable services in private practice. Practice support staff working with a private medical practitioner registered with TIS National can also access the service using the same client code.

Pharmacies can access the service to provide community pharmacy services, and some privately employed allied health professionals working in the Hobart and Launceston areas can also use it.

More information about the Free Interpreting Service is available on theĀ TIS National website.
