North Eastern Public Health Unit, in partnership with the East Melbourne PHN and North West Melbourne PHN, are launching a drive to promote measles immunisation in under-immunised adults (particularly those born between 1966 and 1992) in primary care settings, as part of a broader statewide initiative.

To launch this initiative, we invite primary care clinicians, practice nurses and managers to join our upcoming webinar. The webinar will include information about the immunisation program and why Australia is at risk of measles outbreaks and what primary care can do to support prevention.

Topics:

  • National and international measles epidemiology, and risk of incursions
  • Current and past vaccine schedules
  • Under-immunisation in adult cohorts
  • Objective of program to boost MMR vaccination in adults
  • How primary care services can participate in initiative – opportunistic provision at key touchpoints

Important information for Tasmanian providers:

The Tasmanian Department of Health reminds providers that a state-funded MMR program continues for at-risk groups not covered by the National Immunisation Program (NIP), including infants six to 12 months travelling overseas, and adults born during or after 1966 without evidence of immunity (two doses of a measles vaccine or past infection). Providers are encouraged to promote awareness of this program and recommend vaccination to eligible patients. Additionally, the Tasmanian Department of Health encourages timely vaccination of young children at 12  and 18 months under the NIP. Measles fact sheet | Tasmanian Department of Health.
