These events are being organised by the southern General Practice Liaison Officers and supported by Primary Health Tasmania.

Event 2 will focus on Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MHHITH) and Psychiatrist working for Geriatric Medicine.

The aim of this event will be to increased understanding of patient eligibility and referral criteria in relation to the above-mentioned service.

Dr Honor Pennington will cover the following regarding MHHITH:

  • Setting the scene, outlining the evidence base
  • Description of the service
  • Limitations and strengths
  • Review of outcomes
  • Future directions

Dr David Lang will cover the following regarding Psychiatrist working in Geriatric Medicine:

  • information about a new hospital based psychiatry liaison service

Information about our speakers:

Dr Honor Pennington completed her undergraduate medical training in Glasgow and her post-graduate training in Glasgow and London. She has been in Australia since 2000 (working in NSW until 2013) with her focus being inpatient and community settings. Dr Honor Pennington has been involved with Mental Health Hospital in the Home Unit since it was set up 2 years ago.

Dr David Lang has recently finished working as the RHH consultation-liaison psychiatrist, and is now working 3 sessions/week providing consultations for the RHH’s Geriatric Medicine service.
