The role of the nurse in identifying, screening and managing osteoporosis in primary care
This Nurse education session will be Delivered by Nicole Gibson RN, Regional Nurse Education Manager, Reframe Osteoporosis
“Nicole Gibson is the Regional Nurse Manager for the Reframe program and has been helping clinics over Queensland to identify and screen patients at risk of fracture for the past 4 years. This medical program has just won a Prime award for best public health initiative for 2022 and a previous winner in 2019. Nicole has 10 years’ experience working in primary care and is 1 of 30 Reframe Osteoporosis Nurse Educators in the country, supporting clinics with bone health quality improvement activities.”
Participants will come together for a clinical education session over dinner looking at the anatomy and physiology and why screening is important vs mortality and morbidity rates, RACGP guidelines and using research studies show fracture risk locations and what happens when patients stop therapy to bones. It will also cover the also the role of the General Practice Nurse with managing patients and identification of those at risk.
