Background

The National IAR Guidance and IAR Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST) was developed by the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care and is designed to provide:

  • Advice relating to initial assessment and intake (the eight holistic assessment domains).
  • A description of evidence-based services by level of intensity (the five levels of care).
  • Criteria to assist with matching an individual to a level of care that is most likely to meet the individual’s treatment needs and recovery goals (the IAR-DST).

 

The IAR training will run for two hours and focus on:

  • Introduction to IAR and the development of the National Guidance.
  • Orientation to the domains, levels of care, and decision support tool.
  • Clinical judgement and supported decision-making.
  • Application of the IAR in assessment and intake settings (practical activity using a case vignette).
  • Discussion around local and national Mental Health services, including the newly released HealthPathways pages.

 

Part one of the workshop providers the background and orientation to stepped care, the initial assessment and referral process, and the decision support tool. In part two of the workshop, participants engage in practical activity focusing on applying the IAR decision support tool to the prepared scenario.
