Upcoming tender: Establishment of new Medicare Urgent Care Clinics
The Australian Government is funding the establishment of three new Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in Tasmania as part of a national program.
Funding is provided through Primary Health Tasmania, who will lead a commissioning process to establish these services in Sorell, Kingston and Burnie.
The information on this web page is not a request for tender. Primary Health Tasmania is preparing an open tender process which will invite service providers to apply. The ‘request for tender’ is expected to be released in late August.
Background
Medicare Urgent Care Clinics provide urgent care services for conditions and illnesses that are episodic and not immediately life-threatening, such as fractures, wounds, and minor burns.
These services are bulk billed, resulting in no out-of-pocket costs to patients.
The clinics are open for extended hours, and no appointment or referral is needed.

connection to a wider network of primary, secondary and tertiary care.
Strong emphasis will be placed on partnerships with local healthcare providers; data sharing for performance monitoring; and culturally safe, accessible and inclusive care – particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other priority populations.
The tender will also assess applicants’ governance structures, financial sustainability, and readiness to commence services – aligned within the Operational Guidance – within the expected timeframes.
Full eligibility criteria, funding parameters and information about the selection process will be released when the ‘request for tender’ is published.
